OFFICIAL! ARSENAL CONFIRM SIGNING OF DAVID LUIZ FROM CHELSEA

Arsenal have left fans of the club excited after confirming the signing of another big-name star, David Luiz, from Premier League rivals, Chelsea, on transfer deadline day.

The signing of Luiz comes just hours after Arsenal sealed a £25 million deal for Celtic full-back, Kieran Tierney.’

Luiz has made the switch from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates Stadium after putting pen to a two-year deal, with the Blues to receive £8 million for the 32-year-old defender.

“David [Luiz] will wear the number 23 shirt. The transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes,” Arsenal wrote on its official website after the deal was confirmed on Thursday night.

The move to Arsenal has come despite the Brazil international only just signing a two-year contract extension at Chelsea less than three months ago in May.

But since then, it is understood that the relationship between Luiz and the club broke down, with the defender refusing to train with the first team on Wednesday as he pushed for a transfer to Arsenal.

And his desire to leave the Blues has now been fulfilled by making the switch across London to become Arsenal’s sixth signing of the 2019 summer transfer window.

The paperwork for Luiz’s transfer made it to the authorities just before the transfer deadline on Thursday evening, with Arsenal completing all other processes afterwards.

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery said: “David has huge experience and I look forward to working with him again. He is a well known player and adds to our defensive strength.”

Emery and Luiz worked together for one season in the 2016/17 campaign at Paris Saint-Germain before the Brazilian defender made a return to Chelsea in January 2017, halfway through Emery’s first year in Paris.

Luiz would go on to win the Premier League title at the end of that season while Emery won the league the following season at PSG before joining Arsenal at the start of the 2018/19 campaign.
